The MetroSperm Probe

The core component of MetroSperm.

1. The sensor cavity is dipped directly into the sample to measure its opacity, which is correlated by a microprocessor to the corresponding sperm concentration.
   Opacity is measured at three different light colours and not just once, but repeatedly, in order to average out any inhomogeneities of the sample.
2. A 1mm thick stainless steel enclosure offers robust protection and an easy to clean, inert surface.
   The optical and electronic components inside are potted in plastic resin, ensuring high immunity to moisture and vibration.
3. A laser-engraved serial number uniquely identifies each device.
4. A high quality connector, waterproof to IP67 once plugged, allows to attach the probe to any of the user interfaces of choice described below.

The MetroSperm Host

A user interface for the probe, implemented as a battery powered, hand-held device.

1. Recharge the internal battery by attaching the external power supply to the connector at the side.
2. Connect the MetroSperm probe to the USB socket at the back.
3. An alphanumeric display of 16 characters by two lines offers enough space to present results and adjust parameters.
4. The serial number uniquely identifies each device.
5. A LED indicator turns from green to red when batteries need to be recharged.
6. Five navigation buttons allow to start measurements, adjust parameters and to power on/off the device.
• Center button (short press): Power on. Start a measurement.
• Center button (long press): Power off.
• Left & right buttons: Select a parameter.
• Up & down buttons: Modify parameter value.
7. Sturdy ABS enclosure.

MscControl

A user interface for the probe, implemented as a computer program.

The MetroSperm probe is actually a USB device and can be operated from any computer which runs the MscControl software.
Connect it to a USB port of the desktop PC, laptop or netbook of your choice.
